Treeverse

Traverse Our Treeclimbing Universe

Join us from 21-22 September in the beautiful Hampstead Heath for a two-day tree-climbing workshop.

During this workshop, we will be exploring three pillars of tree movement; tree climbing,  tree dance and tree parkour. These three pillars (or lenses as it were) will allow us to navigate trees in new and inventive ways and see the green spaces around you differently.

TREE CLIMBING will explore techniques of moving through the tree and route finding. Taking elements from rock-climbing practices, we will learn how to find pathways through the trees to match the level of desired challenge.

TREE DANCE will involve coaching on different methodology of approaching a tree to find flow and creativity. Seeing how our bodies can meld with the tree and music to find a new range of moving.

TREE PARKOUR takes inspiration from Parkour/Freerunning to develop skills of vaulting over and jumping between parts of the tree as well as utilising swinging and landing techniques to facilitate challenge.

Whether you're a seasoned tree climber or a complete newbie, there's something for everyone at TREEVERSE.

All levels of experience are welcome to participate in this practice. We use trees with low branches at ground-level to ensure everyone can engage with them. There will be guidance and tasks designed to accommodate everyone, no matter where you are starting from.

The Team and their approaches

  • Tree Dance

Ben will help students explore movement co-created between our bodies and the environment. He aims to show different ways of seeing our bodies and the space around us, as inseparable and in constant conversation. Students will engage with the landscape, interact with trees, and find new and playful ways of moving through the space. Ben will emphasise expressive elements of flow and freedom, using a tree dance lens/the tree as a dance partner. Participants will start with a journey of awareness and movement vocabulary, paying attention to how we already move right now, and embracing that uniqueness, with guidance and tasks to encourage moving differently, to add to what we already have. Through shared themes but with individual exploration, participants will discover their distinct movement "language" using simple, feel-good movement "phrases" that reflect their personal expression and interaction with the surroundings. The trees will be our inspiration as we touch, look, and listen to their shapes, songs, and wisdom as a source of creativity for improvisation and get you ‘out of your head’ and into your tree-body.

  • Tree Climbing

My approach is taking inspiration from different modalities of movement and taking the flavours that resonate most with me into my own coaching. I have taken inspiration from my own rock climbing practice to inform how I teach others to read and navigate trees.

  • Description text goes Tree Running

Charlie will be guiding students through finding conscious effortless interaction with tree scapes. Students will be engaging with a diverse ecology of methods to move through trees to enhance one’s confidence, vocabulary and skill set when exploring this type of multi dimensional environment.
